Setting
Up Your
Web Folder
Connection
(Win98)
Using Windows 98, you can
connect to the Mount's Student Web Server to create your personal website.
This allows drag-and-drop copying of files to the Student Web Server, and
can be set up on multiple computers, if desired. From off-campus, you will need to be connected to the Internet
before starting this process.
To create a connection on any computer,
follow the steps below.
- On your computer's desktop, double click the My
Computer
icon. A My Computer window opens.
- Double click the Web Folders
icon. The Add Web Folder window opens. In the location area, type "https://students.msj.edu/uploads"
as illustrated.

- Click the Next > button.
An Enter Network Password dialog box opens. Enter your network credentials, as
illustrated:
User name: Your LastnameFirstname.
Password: ******* (same as MSJ email password)
If you are the only one who uses the computer you may select the option to
"Save this password to your password list" to save steps
in the future.
- Click the OK button. The
Add Web Folder dialog box will open again.
- Type an "alias", a
user-friendly name, for the folder
you are connecting to. This name can be anything you want it to be. An
example is given in the illustration.

- Click the Finish button. At
this point, you will connect to the folder on the MSJ Student Web
Server.
Your folder's "alias" name
will now appear inside your "Web Folders," as
illustrated.
- You can now drag-and-drop files into
this folder, create new files and folders, etc., just as you manage
the files and folders on your local computer or network drive
space.
- Double-click the folder, to view its
contents. The folder already has one file in it, index.htm. You can
modify or replace this page; however, you must have a file named
"index.htm" if your MSJ web site is to be linked from the
main "Student Listing" page.
