For me, art has never been a career or a way to make a living. It is living. It is something that I can't help doing and can't imagine living without.

After escaping from high school through the Post-Secondary Enrollment plan, I became a full-time General Art student at the Mount and later added Natural Science as a second major. Although I've always been interested in insects, my work with the MSJ Insect Survey sparked a zealous fascination for tiger beetles.

Insects and the natural world continue to be the chief inspirations for my work, which is strongly influenced by modern and traditional Native American art and aesthetics. I also hold the incredibly dated beliefs that art should be pleasant to look at and that excellent craft is an end unto itself. So much for a career in fine arts.

In addition to freelance editing and scientific illustration, I'm currently developing a small web business which will focus on beadwork and silver jewelry, featuring animal patterns ranging from mackerel stripes to butterfly spots to ocellated pheasant feathers.

When I'm not in my workshop, I roam the country researching insects with my husband, Dr. Gene Kritsky.
