Medicine Wheel, 2001. Porcupine quills, braintan.

The medicine wheel symbolizes many things, including the cardinal directions, the sacred paths of life, and the unity of all things. This one adorns the flap of a 2" pouch.

Rosette, 2001. Porcupine quills, braintan.

This boldly patterned simple-band rosette was inspired by Northern Plains quillwork of the early 1800's.

Snowy Owl Sheath, 2001. Porcupine quills, braintan.

Quillwork can be applied to modern designs as well as traditional ones. This panel, which will form part of a knife sheath, uses the naturally dark tips of the porcupine quills to form the dark spots on the owl's feathers. It took almost 70 hours to complete.
