Dragonfly Moccassins, 2001. Brain-tanned deerskin, glass beads.

While the color scheme of these moccassins is contemporary, the design elements are based on 19th century Cheyenne examples. The cross-shaped dragonfly motifs are intended to confer the insect's agility to the wearer.

Trillium, 2002. Brain-tanned deerskin, glass beads.

I made this medallion to teach myself the two-needle appliqué stitch. The design is based on Trillium grandiflorum, which flowers in Ohio's forests each spring.

Tiger Beetle Badges, 2000-present. Leather, glass beads.

Tiger beetles require so much skill (and luck) to collect that I commemorate each new species I capture with a badge based on the markings of its wing covers. Each badge is loom-woven of small 14/o beads and measures about 1.25 inches long. I now have 26 of them!

The Lion in Winter, in progress. Braintan, glass beads.

This piece, done in appliqué stitch with 14/o beads, will form the central panel of a Crow-style mirror bag. The snow dusting the cat's coat is made of charlottes-- faceted beads with a subtle, random sparkle.
